Эма Радукану had her blood pressure taken and was checked over by the on-site doctor in worrying scenes during her Адкрыты чэмпіянат Аўстраліі second-round defeat on Thursday. The Brit had complained of feeling unwell during the third set against Wang Yafan and looked visibly uncomfortable as she continued her comeback from a long-term injury.

Raducanu made a slow start to the match and went 6-4 down in the first set, before rallying to win by the same scoreline in the second. However, she complained to her team at the start of the third set that she might vomit during the contest.

The Brit had wrapped herself with a towel during the break in play before she was assessed by the medical staff, which included getting her blood pressure taken.

Raducanu was able to return to play despite not feeling at her physical best and appeared in discomfort as she battled in an attempt to reach the third round.

Leading 40-30 at 2-1 down in the third set, Raducanu was facing her opponent’s serve but had to pause and stop herself from vomiting on the court, before going over to the sidelines and retching.

However, in a near-three-hour marathon, Raducanu was unable to overcome her illness and defeat her Chinese opponent and despite winning some hard-fought points, went down 6-4 in the decider and crashed out of the Grand Slam.

Fellow Brit Джэк Дрэйпер had thrown up on Tuesday as a result of anxiety on the court during his 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-0 6-2 win over American Marcos Giron, with Draper waiting until the end of the match before puking in a courtside bin.
